Sometimes... no CPR is better than bad CPR!
Calling an Ambulance is not enough in cardiac arrest!
The standard advice for the general public worldwide is CALL + PUSH + SHOCK, i.e. the only 3 measures provided in the initial response that have any evidence of improving long term survival. ARAN was instrumental in changing the NSW Health public message regarding out-of-hospital in NSW to this new international paradigm. Together with a group of other health professionals and organisations ARAN spearheaded the need for change. We did this without any input from the ARC, who were deliberately not invited to the special summit as they are considered by many to be the biggest barrier to innovation and improvements in resuscitation outcomes in Australia.
On October 16th around the world initiatives will promote this simple, evidenced-based message. ARAN supports Restart a Heart Day and encourages everyone to learn effective, high-quality CPR skills.
